Before you hit the open road for a good old summer road trip, make sure you know your route and the best and worst states to stop along the way to your final destination.
A new WalletHub study found that 75% of Americans plan to take a road trip this summer, continuing a trend where 79% of trips in 2012 were by car. Experts attribute this increased interest to budgeting, as inflation is hitting people’s wallets hard. WalletHub ranked all 50 states for summer road trips, considering 21 factors like driving costs, lodging prices, traffic safety, weather, and activities.
The best states overall for summer roadtrips are Texas, Minnesota, New York, Louisiana, and Florida. Texas claimed the top spot thanks to its vast amount of activities along the way and for having the cheapest 3-star hotels and restaurants per capita.
Take this all with a grain of salt, of course, as California landed in the top 10 worst, and I beg to differ. The drive down Highway 101 is one of my favorites!
