Amazon will end support for Chime by February 20, 2026

Amazon has announced plans to discontinue its proprietary videoconferencing tool, Amazon Chime, by February 20, 2026. The company has already stopped accepting new customers for Chime as of February 19, 2025, and existing users can continue using its features until the shutdown date. This decision is part of Amazon’s broader strategy to focus on core business areas like e-commerce, cloud computing, and streaming.

As part of this transition, Amazon has chosen Zoom as its standard platform for internal meetings, replacing Chime. An internal memo confirmed that Zoom will now serve as the default meeting application for Amazon’s corporate workforce of approximately 350,000 employees. This move marks a significant win for Zoom and reflects Amazon’s decision to adopt external solutions that better fit its needs. The company cited Chime’s limited external adoption as a key reason for its retirement.

Additionally, Amazon is rolling out Microsoft 365 productivity tools across the organization. Employees will gain access to applications like Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on a rolling basis. While Zoom will be the primary tool for internal meetings, Microsoft Teams will be used for meetings requiring full integration with Microsoft 365, and Cisco Webex will remain an option for customer-facing meetings involving Cisco products.
