Humane has announced that its AI Pin will cease functioning

Humane has announced that its AI Pin, a wearable device designed to replace smartphones, will cease functioning on February 28, 2025, at 12 PM PST. This is due to the company’s acquisition by HP, which plans to integrate Humane’s technology into its own products but has decided to discontinue the AI Pin hardware.

Key details about the shutdown

Device Functionality: After February 28, the AI Pin will no longer connect to Humane’s servers, rendering features like calling, messaging, AI queries, and cloud access unusable. Only basic offline functions, such as checking battery life, will remain operational.

Data Deletion: All customer data stored on Humane’s servers, including photos, videos, and notes, will be permanently deleted on February 28 at 12 PM PST. Users are advised to back up their data before this deadline.

Refund Policy: Customers may be eligible for refunds under specific conditions:

  • Devices shipped on or after November 15, 2024 (within a 90-day return window) are eligible for a full refund. Refund requests must be submitted by February 27, 2025.
  • Customers with pending orders that have not yet been shipped will receive automatic cancellations and refunds.
  • Prorated refunds will also be issued for any prepaid subscriptions extending beyond February 28.

The AI Pin’s discontinuation follows poor market performance and criticism of its functionality. Originally launched in April 2024 as a potential smartphone alternative, it faced issues such as negative reviews and safety concerns with its charging case. Despite efforts like price reductions, the product failed to gain traction. HP’s acquisition of Humane for $116 million includes its software platform and intellectual property but excludes continuing support for the AI Pin hardware.
